Life is a mix of successes and failures! Some unfulfilled dreams and some miracles. Life may be tough at times but how you navigate through it, makes all the difference. Meet Shweta and Kavisha, a mother-daughter duo who with their never give up mindset, faced all the challenging circumstances with great zeal. Let’s find more about what made them inclined towards an age old art form “Hoop Art” and why this storyline has a title Hope with the Hoop?
When I let go of what I am!
Shweta is a graduate and PGDM in HR from Welingkar institute Mumbai. She aspired to be an Army Officer but couldn’t make it to the final merit twice. However destiny had some other plans! She got married to an army officer. She pursued ECCEd (Early Childhood Care and Education) as her hobby.
“After two years of marriage I gave birth to a beautiful angel Kavisha, she filled our hearts and lives with immense happiness and joy. One year later, we got to know that she has sensorineural hearing loss. We ran from one hospital to another but things didn’t rule out in our favour. There were a lot of complications in her case. After doing all we could, we finally decided to focus on what we have. I started learning sign language so that we can communicate with her.” Narrates Shweta.
Eventually all things fall into place
As a parent it’s very difficult to understand the problems and communicate with your kid having impaired hearing. At times I was depressed and started crying for no reason. But then I realised Kavisha looks up to me and I have to stay strong. We started her speech therapy. Years of constant efforts and self motivation eventually paid off. Finally we started conversing in sign language and she started speaking a few words.
The day Kavisha started going to school, my heart was filled with ultimate joy! This is when I also realised that now I can take out time for myself and do what I love. I used to paint before marriage. I again held my brush after a decade. To my surprise, Kavisha also followed me. In one event, I came across a neighbour of mine making Hoop Art. That fascinated me, I started doing it myself. I tried to bring more creativity in it. Kavisha saw me and she also started to enjoy it. She loved, writing her own name with the embroidery.
What is Hoop art?
The Hoop Art is a traditional embroidery form done on cloth and can be hung on any corner of your house. Hoop is a circular wooden frame with a metal screw, placed on a particular portion of fabric that needs to be embroidered upon. It is different because you can express your emotions and bring your creativity to this art form. It is easy to learn and can be transformed into a customised gift for your loved ones.
I started making beautiful designs on a Hoop and giving it to my friends and family. Their reactions motivated me to keep on working for the better. I started the page on Instagram and slowly people followed me. I mostly spread the word through friends, put hoardings and ads on Instagram for promotion. Few inquiries started pouring in and a small home business started to grow. Explains Shweta.
As of now I don’t aim for much but till 20 orders I will do it on my own. Subsequently I plan to grow and involve more women to make them financially independent.
Happy is the man who can make a living by his hobby
I have been an artist since my college days, I used to do oil painting, watercolours etc when I heard about this art form I wanted to come up with something unique. So I started designing differently. Hoops are made of wood/ bamboo, I use embroidery cloth, threads & needles, Paints & brushes, buttons, beads, laces, mirrors…etc. I also use brocade and other fine cloth materials to bring out my emotions to create a personal gift.
While working on my Hoop Art I get immense satisfaction. As I am not only doing it within my house with Kavisha but also I get to paint, draw and showcase my creative side. Generally customers tell me what design they want to opt for and I enhance it with innovative ideas.
Weaknesses are just strengths
I am also happy to know that Hoop Art is good for Kavisha’s moral and skills development too. She loves art, be it drawing, painting or embroidery. It also helps me in engaging her in something creative which develops her motor and gross skills. It also helps in boosting her creativity and improving focus. I also got time for myself where I can distract myself. This is what any other woman or parent should do because even if you have a special kid your life has not come to an end. You also need time for yourself.
“You are the role model for your child. Make yourself strong enough, your child draws inspiration from your behaviour. My parents and husband played a very important role in making me stand through all my odds.
I will do what all I can as a mother to teach Kavisha everything and anything she has a keen interest for and then let her choose her own destiny.I can give her wings to fly but the sky is totally hers.” believes Shweta.
This is how Hoop is providing Hope to Shweta and Kavisha. The story also ascertains the fact that Art has a great power to heal ! You may like to follow them on Instagram and order your next gift!
